REGISTRATION  DESK will  be  located  in  the foyer  of  Physics  100
Lecture  Hall.   It  will be  open  from 8:15  AM to  5:00  PM Monday
through  Thursday,   August   20-23.     The  telephone   number   is
415/321-2300, extension 3870.

Please  check   the  bulletin  board  there   periodically  for  late
information  about the  Conference.   There  will be  an alphabetized
board for distribution of messages and mail.

DAILY BUSSES from and to motels are scheduled as follows:
Inbound:  Tiki Inn 8:15 AM, Flamingo 8:25, Rickey's Hyatt House 8:35,
	Stanford 8:45 AM.
Outbound: leave Stanford (Palm & Serra Streets) at 5:40 PM on Monday,
	5:15 PM on Tuesday through Thursday.

BICYCLES may  be rented  at the  Campus Bike  Shop, located on  Santa
Teresa Street  next to the Womens Gym.  They  will be open from 10 AM
to 3 PM  on Monday  and have a  very limited supply,  so come  early.
Rates are $3  per day or $10  per week (plus $2  insurance plus tax).
Inflation continues apace.

PARALLEL SESSIONS will include:
	1.   Invited  tutorial  lectures  on Monday,  which  will  be
repeated via videotape on Wednesday and Thursday,
	2.    Contributed  papers  --  two  sessions  throughout  the
conference (see technical program),
	3.  Free  sessions in which  unrefereed, last minute  results
may  be presented  on  Tuesday  through  Thursday (see  Free  Session
Program),
	4.   Special sessions, including workshops and informal panel
discussions of particular topics (see Special Session Program).
	5.  Film festival, consisting of films brought  by Conference
participants, shown in  rotation (see schedule on  bulletin board and
outside the cinema).

LIGHTHILL TAPE  will be shown  on Tuesday and  Wednesday.  This  is a
BBC  program, recently taped  in London and  not yet  broadcast, of a
discussion of artificial intelligence  by Sir John Lighthill,  Donald
Michie, Richard Gregory, and John McCarthy.

WINETASTING on Monday evening is  open to the first 600  registrants.
It will  be held at  the Stanford Artificial  Intelligence Laboratory
rather than  on campus as announced in  the preliminary program.  See
technical program for directions  on how to  get there.  Busses  will
run from motels and campus as follows:
Bus #1  leaves Rickeys Hyatt House at 6:45 PM,  Flamingo at 6:55,
	Tiki at 7:05,
Bus #2  leaves Stern Hall at 7:10 PM.
Both busses begin return trip at about 9PM.

PUBLIC  IS  INVITED  to  the  following  events:  Informal  Reception
(Sunday  evening),  A. I.   Film Festival  (Monday through Thursday),
Computers and Thought Lecture (Tuesday evening), Invited  Discussions
(Wednesday  evening).   All  other sessions  are  open to  Conference
registrants only.

TOURS FOR  SPOUSES will operate, as scheduled, on Monday and Tuesday.
See  last page  of  technical  program  for details.    Children  are
welcome. Tickets are on sale at the Registration Desk.

BABYSITTERS are available.  See Registration Desk.

ADVANCE PAPERS  OF THE  CONFERENCE are  included in the  registration
fee  and  may be  picked up  at  the registration  desk.   Additional
copies may be picked up  for a fee of $10 or will  be mailed anywhere
for $15.

DEMONSTRATIONS of A.  I. Programs via  remote terminal will  be given
in the vicinity  of the Registration Desk at various times on Tuesday
through Thursday.  See bulletin board for schedule.

FOOD SERVICE for campus residents is at  Wilbur Hall.  People staying
off-campus  may purchase  individual meals there,  though there  is a
limit to the number that can  be accomodated.  Tresidder Union has  a
cafeteria and an  interesting Coffee House.  The latter  is open from
11 AM to 1 AM.

Tutorial lecturers, authors of contributed papers, and their  Session
Chairmen are invited  to a free  lunch at Wilbur  Hall on the  day of
their session.

RESTAURANTS off-campus are  abundant and varied.   You may  obtain an
annotated  list of  interesting places  on the  Peninsula and  in San
Francisco at the Registration Desk.

BUSSES TO  THE AIRPORT  are scheduled as follows:
Thursday: leave  Stanford (Serra &  Palm) at 12:15  PM,   5:15 PM
	  arrive San francisco Airport at     1:00        6:00
Friday:   leave Tiki Inn at 7:30 AM, Flamingo 7:40, Rickeys Hyatt
	  House 7:50, Stern Hall (Stanford) 8:00 AM, arrive at
	  San Francisco Airport 8:45 AM.

LUGGAGE  may be  left in  the vicinity  of the  Registration  Desk on
Thursday, at your own risk.
